Simran Sachdeva W14 Topic: Introduction
I want to learn about thoroughly researching a topic. I find that when I do research, I tend to not explore all my options. For example, I would much rather search the internet than go to a library. However, I have learned that I do better on assignments when I go to a library to do research, and browse the internet as well. I am most interested in studying English and writing, which explains why I am in this program. I have never heard of software such as Refwork and Zotero, let alone use them. When it comes to doing research in social context, I am a huge fan of twitter. Whenever I hear about a social issue in the society, or a trending news, I quickly sign in onto twitter and get the latest updates. It is very convenient, faster than other news sources, and most importantly, it allows regular people like myself to weigh on the matter rather than the involvement of the media. I have absolutely no experience of any kind regarding radio or podcasting. I am very nervous about it because I am not as skilled in technology as some other people are, and I am not aware of the equipment required to record a podcast. At the same time, I am excited to learn simply because, I would to record podcasts in the future for personal uses. I am most interested in "On the Media" topic for the podcast. I would like to explore that more because there are so many layers of media that are not often visible to the viewers. Also, I am regular newspaper reader and always keep up with the latest news so this would give me an opportunity to research an event of my choice.
