This week the class has discussed about our podcast pitching assignment. On the website called ‘Radioguestlist.com’ I’ve found some pretty interesting and helpful ideas when it comes to pitching a podcast.
The first point that is given out is by using an attention grabbing headlines ,for example the one that we used in class as a sample. Another idea is to make sure it’s a popular topic, ex; celebrities. And finally make sure you have real information and content in the show. I can see why this is important simply because without this the podcast would be bland and boring. On a website called xojane.com an article written by Mandy argues that it’s best to be straight to the point which and not ramble around nonsense. Another one I found on feedforall.com has a list of do’s and don’ts when it comes to pitching a podcast. One of the do’s says that you should make it professional and to the best of your ability. One don’t that is stated can be even challenging at times, even for me would be avoiding “umms”. It was placed on the don’ts on feedforall.com stating “Make a point then move on, there is no need for redundancy and rambling. Dead air, or "umms" will drive listeners away…”. I agree to a certain extent that this might leave a bad though on a listener but like stated in class its best to avoid being worried about it knowing that it will only hurt you more.
From the information I’ve gather I know I would have to find a topic that is mainstream and most people know about it. I learned that I should have energy when recording this podcast so I can keep the listener entertained, and finally to be straight to the point.
I do have my podcast idea set up and I’ve just started on my pitch and with this information I can see that I’m finding it easier to follow along and do it right.
