For me the pitch exercise really did help me refine my topic
because when you are actually pitching it in front of a group of people, it can’t
be long boring information with just facts and information that doesn’t really
tell the audience what the topic is. So knowing that I had to present it and
only had a maximum of four minutes, I knew I had to just brush the surface of
the topic and get the audience interested to that they would want to listen to
my podcast.
I think for other presentations that pitch exercise could be
very useful so that you know exactly what you want to say and want to talk
about. However, I am not sure that for other assignments it would be very
useful.
Here is my podcast pitch:
While listening to a podcast by the Science Times, who I
will also be pitching this to, I heard a topic that blew my mind. That topic
was cosmetic surgery on pets. I’m not talking about the procedures for burn
victims or cancer patients or the type of procedure that will help the animals
have a better everyday life. The type of procedure that they were talking about
were strictly cosmetic. This includes, tummy tucks, eye lifts, Botox and
braces, ear cropping, tail docking, and to me the worse of all neuticles; which
for those of you who don’t know that’s silicone testicles for small animals.
And neuticles really got my attention, only because over the
holidays I sat and watched through the whole Kardashians marathon and one of
the episodes featured Bruce Jenner and Kim Kardashian taking one of their dogs
to get neuticles. At the end of this procedure what each of them wanted got me
thinking. Not surprisingly Kim thought the idea of neuticles were the way to go
and even chose the size. While Bruce wanted to know that if after the procedure
he could still perform his “manly” duties. Which got me thinking, for those
people who are willing to give their pets cosmetic surgery are they as vain as
someone like Kim Kardashian or are they like Bruce who feels like these types
of surgeries will give something back to the pets; tune into my podcast for the
answer.
