After listening to two very
different Podcasts: Freakonomics' Who Runs the Internet? and Kiss 92.5 FM's
Blake and Wylde podcast about the idea of being beautiful, I
have chosen to emulate the Freakonomics podcast.
The Freakonomics podcast followed
a more structured organization with an introduction, interviews, and conclusion
with added features like music and various audio files. On the other hand, the
Blake and Wylde podcast was a relaxed, back and forth conversation between the
two hosts. Though I am following the Freakonomics podcast, I still might
incorporate the relaxed, conversational style of the Blake and Wylde
podcast.
The topic I have chosen for my
podcast is both the effectiveness and ineffectiveness of smoking advertisements
- both for and against. Smoking has had it's glory days where it had been seen
as a rite of passage, but still remains prominent today in a different light.
It is interesting to pursue how the perspective of smoking has changed over the
years. With the growing knowledge of how destructive smoking is and even
advertisements against it on the packaging, why are cigarettes produced
alongside anti-smoking products in today's society?
Spark was a useful tool in helping
me choose a subject as it suggested choosing something that I was interested in
or wondered about. I would advise students in my position to choose a topic
that is relevant, interesting, and would easily fit in a day-to-day
conversation.
