Blog Entry One: Introductions
My name is Jessica. I am a third year student studying English and Professional Writing/ Institutional Communications. I am mostly interested in studying technical writing, creative writing, and social science. I have always enjoyed conducting research whenever it is demanded of me, and I often find myself researching people, events, and oddities when I have free time.
I have never used (or heard of, prior to my brief research as I write this) RefWorks or Zotero, but I really wish I had (flashback: first year, two nights before my paper is due and trying to find the perfect source...). My go-to research portals are, of course, Google and Google Scholar, online library databases, and my most favorite of all: libraries, in all their paper-smelling and silence-cherishing glory. With this course, I hope to expand my methods of research and improve my research process, perhaps by becoming familiar with more efficient software and turning research into a social activity.
I do not have any experience with podcasts, other than having occasionally listened them, namely a few episodes of The Joe Rogan Experience. I am looking forward to the task of creating a podcast, and after looking at the podcast list, I am considering On The Media or Under the Influence. These podcast shows interest me because their objectives are aligned with my interests, and I've always known that it is easier to work on something if you are passionate about it! The difficult part will be deciding which I prefer.
