Alison Lyn, W14: Introductions

My name is Alison Lyn and I am a third year Professional Writing Program in the Institutional Communications stream and I am also minoring in History, here at York University. I am an avid television and movie lover and I also have a passion for food and books.

The extent of my researching experience is limitd to Google, Google Scholar and Yorku's e-resources. Therefore, I have never used RefWorks or Zotero, so I am interested in how these softwares can help my research strategy and how i organize the information I will receive.
What I want to learn about research is how to filter out what i don't need in my search box so that the relevant information will be at my fingertips sooner, rather than looking through several pages and windows of unnecessary information.

I have absolutely no experience with radio or podcasting. Up to the first lecture of this class, I was not necessarily sure what a podcast was, so I am defintely intimidated and anxious to create, get through and hopefully finish the short podcast episode.

For the course project, I am considering Stuff you Missed in History Class, because I am also a history minor, and I enjoy disccusing past events in a clear, concise and interesting way. However I am also considering The Science Times. Scientific inforamtion most, if not all the time confuses the general population because there are so many variables involved with not only the final decision in its access, but the risk that involve its development.Discuss a recent scientific development or discovery.  With either topic, I hope to leave the viewer of the podcast with new information and have somewhat of an understanding of what is being discussed.
